The Story

A bike I picked up on Trade Me.  No one else seemed to know anything about these Raleighs so I got it at a ridiculously low price.  Despite claims on the web that these frames fell apart they were ridden to huge success by Lauren Fignon in 1989 when he took World No1 ranking from Sean Kelly and then went on to come second in Le Tour, 8 seconds behind Greg Lemond.

The Dynatech process was pioneered by Raleigh in their Specialist Bicycle Development Unit using essentially Reynolds 753 tubing bonded to alloy lugs. The claim was they were 20% stronger than an all steel frame because no brazing meant no heat.

Here she is the way I bought her - looking pretty damn ugly too.

As always, the first thing to do is strip it right down and assess it all ... and get rid of that bland Shimano junk.
